Rangers 8, Angels 3: Adrian Beltre delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning to snap a tie and added another during a four-run ninth as visiting Texas posted its eighth win in nine games.

Leonys Martin collected two hits, an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases for the Rangers, who increased their lead for the second American League wild card to 1 1/2 games and climbed within one of AL West-leading Oakland. Elvis Andrus went 3-for-5 with an RBI, two steals and three runs scored as Texas improved to 2-0 without suspended slugger Nelson Cruz.

After Martin forged a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning with an RBI groundout, Andrus generated the winning run in the eighth. Andrus hit a leadoff single off Kevin Jepsen (1-3), stole second and moved to third on a groundout before racing home on Beltre's single to right field.

Yu Darvish (11-5) allowed three runs and eight hits over seven innings as he improved to 6-1 lifetime against the Angels. Tanner Scheppers worked two scoreless frames for his second career save and first this season.

Texas took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Ian Kinsler lifted a sacrifice fly and Andrus scored on a wild pitch by Garrett Richards. Darvish threw away the lead after just five pitches, allowing back-to-back homers by Kole Calhoun and Mike Trout to start the bottom of the frame.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Richards lasted six innings, surrendering three runs and six hits with a walk and five strikeouts. ... Texas announced RHP Colby Lewis will undergo season-ending surgery to remove a bone spur in his right hip. The 34-year-old, who is slated to become a free agent, has not pitched for the Rangers since July 18, 2012 due to elbow surgery. ... INF Grant Green was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake by the Angels and started at second base in place of Howie Kendrick, who suffered a knee injury Monday. RHP Daniel Stange was optioned to Salt Lake.
