C Alex Avila returned to the Tigers' starting lineup on Saturday and went 1-for-5 in the Tigers' 9-3 win over the Yankees. Avila missed Friday's series opener after he took a foul ball off the catcher's mask Thursday. Avila passed all the concussion tests he underwent after the game Thursday and should return to his role as the starting catcher for the Tigers.

3B Miguel Cabrera showed no ill effects from his sore left shin on Saturday, when he went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the Tigers' 9-3 win over the Yankees. Cabrera hurt his shin Friday night, when he fouled consecutive pitches off himself before delivering a dramatic, game-tying, two-run home run off Mariano Rivera in the ninth inning of the Tigers' 4-3, 10-inning loss.

RF Torii Hunter enjoyed a big game Saturday, when he went 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the Tigers' 9-3 win over the Yankees. Hunter hit a sacrifice fly in the first to open the scoring for the Tigers and laced a three-run homer in the sixth inning to provide their final runs. He also singled and scored in the fifth and singled in the eighth.

RHP Justin Verlander will try to win his third straight start when he takes the mound for the Tigers on Sunday in the finale of a three-game series against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. With a 12-8 record and a 3.74 ERA,

RHP Anibal Sanchez won his third straight decision on Saturday, when he allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out eight over seven innings in the Tigers' 9-3 win over the Yankees. Sanchez retired the first nine batters he faced on only 28 pitches before he worked out of a first-and-third, one-out jam in the fourth by striking out Alfonso Soriano and Curtis Granderson.

CF Austin Jackson remained red hot on Saturday, when he went 2-for-4 with three runs scored in the Tigers' 9-3 win over the Yankees. Jackson led the game off with a triple and scored on Torii Hunter's sacrifice fly. Jackson hit a solo home run in the fifth and walked and came around to score on Hunter's three-run homer in the sixth.
