RPH Tanner Roark picked up his first major league win in Saturday's 8-5 victory over the Phillies. He came on in relief of Taylor Jordan and pitched two perfect innings in his second game as the Nationals rallied. Roark, 26, made his debut on Aug. 7 with two scoreless innings against Atlanta.
RHP Taylor Jordan picked up a no decision against in Washington's 8-5 win over Philadelphia on Saturday. He went five innings, giving up four runs and seven hits while striking out three and walking one. He gave up four runs in the second inning but later pitched out of trouble in the fourth and fifth. "I'm still out there, whether or not I gave up four runs, so just don't let them get the fifth," Jordan said.
OF Jayson Werth picked up career hit 1,000 in Saturday's 8-5 win over the Phillies. After singling in the fourth and sixth innings to get to 999, Werth hit a two-run homer off Phillies reliever Zach Miner in the seventh inning to put the Nationals ahead 6-4. The National League's Player of the Month in July has been on an extended hot streak. Since returning from a hamstring injury on June 2, he is hitting .355 with 13 homers and 38 RBI and has a .440 on-base percentage. "Definitely a milestone," Werth said of 1,000 hits. "When you set out playing this game, however many years ago, that was one thing, a benchmark you put on the list of things you want to accomplish. It was good."
C Wilson Ramos is hitting .308 (28-for-91) since coming off the disabled list July 4 with four doubles, five homers and 20 RBIs in 24 games. Ramos, who missed 58 games with a hamstring injury, is hitting .288 with seven homers and 26 RBIs overall.
