CB Dunta Robinson suffered a sprained AC joint in his shoulder against the 49ers. Head coach Andy Reid said the injury was not serious and he should be back on the field in a matter of days.
S Quintin Demps was signed in May only after the Chiefs went through a series of secondary injuries during their offseason program. The five-year veteran had been a marginal contributor in Houston for several seasons, after coming into the league as an Andy Reid draft choice with Philadelphia. Through training camp he's shown that he's able to contribute not only on defense, where he's already part of the sub-packages for pass coverage, but on special teams as well, where he can return kicks, like the 104-yard touchdown return he had against San Francisco. Demps has elevated himself into the No. 3 spot at safety.
RB Jamaal Charles missed the second preseason game and a handful of practices because of a foot strain he suffered during practice on August 12. Charles returned to practice on August 18, but his status for the final two preseason games remains in doubt. Head coach Andy Reid said he remains "day-to-day."
WR Jamar Newsome has been battling for a roster spot but he didn't help his chances when he came down with a sprained ankle and also a shoulder injury against the 49ers.
DB Sanders Commings continues to sit out practice due to his broken clavicle. Head coach Andy Reid said he's still a number of weeks away from being able to practice or play. "That injury is normally six to eight weeks to heal," Reid said. "We've x-rayed it and it's healing nice, but he was injured on the 23rd of July. You have to be real careful of those and you have to lean towards that eight-week mark."
Former first-round pick A.J. Jenkins was traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin, another failed top pick.
TE Travis Kelce, the Chiefs' third-round draft choice, suffered a bruised knee in the game against San Francisco and was not able to return for practice.
OLB/DE Mike Catapano returned to practice on Sunday, August 18 after missing two weeks of work and a pair of preseason games because of a calf injury.
RT Eric Fisher, the No. 1 selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, continues to be bothered by a shoulder injury that's cost him practice time. Against San Francisco, Fisher also suffered an injury to his right hand/wrist area and he had to come off the field although he ultimately returned and finished out the first half with the starters.
