RHP Brandon Beachy (right elbow inflammation) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday and is scheduled for an appointment with Dr. James Andrews on Monday. Beachy was 2-1, 4.50 in five starts and 30 innings. Beachy underwent Tommy John surgery June 21, 2012.

RHP Julio Teheran completely stifled St. Louis on July 27, working seven shutout innings and permitting just two hits, but earned a no-decision in Atlanta's 3-0 win. Teheran outdueled Washington's Gio Gonzalez in his last start on Sunday, earning a 2-1 victory. Teheran is averaging just over six innings per start and has walked only 34 men in 149 innings.

OF Todd Cunningham was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday to replace RHP Brandon Beachy. With an off-day Monday, Atlanta won't need a fifth starter until Aug. 31, so it opted for another position player. Cunningham was with the Braves from July 29-Aug. 11, going 2-for-6 with a hit in his first MLB at-bat.

RHP Freddy Garcia was acquired by Atlanta on Friday from Baltimore for cash considerations. Garcia was 3-5 with a 5.77 earned run average in 11 appearances for the Orioles before being sent down to Triple-A Norfolk, where he's gone 8-3, 2.84 in 13 starts. Garcia was placed at Triple-A Gwinnett but will probably be called up when the rosters expand to 40 men on Sept. 1.

RHP Kris Medlen dominated the Cardinals for five innings on Friday night, but gave up a mammoth homer to Matt Holliday with two out in the sixth and another run in the seventh. That turned a superb outing into just a quality start -- six innings, six hits, three runs -- and his 12th loss against 10 wins. Medlen threw just 78 pitches, earning seven outs on the first or second pitch.
