LF Tyler Moore stroked three singles, drove in a run and scored a run. He is 9-for-17, .529, since rejoining the team Saturday.

C Jhonathan Solano was promoted from Triple-A Syracuse. In 16 games earlier this season with the Nationals, he hit .167, 6-for-36, with two doubles, two RBIs, struck out six times and walked twice. He will serve as Wilson Ramos' backup.

RHP Dan Haren had a rocky start this season, 4-10 with a 5.61 ERA in the first half, but he is 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA in seven games since then. He is 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA in August. In 10 career starts against the Royals, he is 5-2 with a 2.53 ERA.

LHP Gio Gonzalez lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, on nine hits, including two home runs in the first inning, and three walks. It matched his shortest outing of the season. It was the third time this year he has surrendered six earned runs or more.

LHP Xavier Cedeno was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. In seven games this season -- two with the Nationals and five with the Astros -- Cedeno has allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits and eight walks in 7 2/3 innings.
