Colorado Rockies - PlayerWatch

3B Nolan Arenado entered Saturday ranking second among all MLB rookies with 30 extra-base hits. Jedd Gyorko of the Padres leads the category with 37. Arenado went 0-for-3 on Saturday.

1B Ryan Wheeler had no RBI in his first 13 at-bats this season. But that changed with his run-scoring double in the eighth inning on Friday. Wheeler realizes that there will likely be an opening at 1B next season with the expected retirement of Todd Helton. And while the Rockies will likely sign a veteran first baseman or move Michael Cuddyer in from right field, Wheeler could get a chance.

LHP Jorge De La Rosa will start against the Marlins for the second time this season on Sunday. In his previous 2013 start against Miami, he got the win and pitched six scoreless innings. Sunday's game is an afternoon start, which works in his favor, too. In day games this year, he is 6-0 with a 1.58 ERA, which ranks third in the National League in each of those categories.

1B Todd Helton singled twice against the Marlins on Saturday and is now four hits from 2,500 for his career. Once he gets there, he will join Stan Musial as the only players to have at least 2,500 hits, 550 doubles, 350 homers and a .310 career batting average.

RHP Roy Oswalt, who has been out since July 8 because of a hamstring strain, threw a bullpen session on Saturday. He is set to throw in a simulated game when the Rockies get back to Denver on Monday. Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Oswalt is behind RHP Tyler Chatwood in his rehab schedule.

LF Carlos Gonzalez (strained middle finger on his right hand) took some dry swings and is feeling better. He has not yet faced live pitching, however.

RHP Jeff Manship was tagged with the loss on Saturday against the Marlins. Manship (0-4) allowed four hits, two walks and three runs in six innings. His ERA, which had ballooned to 7.80 after three starts, actually improved to 6.86.

RHP Tyler Chatwood, who has been out with elbow inflammation since Aug. 1, threw a bullpen session on Saturday and everything went smoothly. The Rockies will send him on a rehab assignment next week.
