OF Adron Chambers was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday to provide bench help and grounded out as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of the 7-2 win at Pittsburgh. Chambers hit .252 with eight home runs and 16 stolen bases in 101 games with Memphis.

C Tony Cruz (stress fracture in left forearm) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Sunday. He had been out since Aug. 15. Cruz and C Rob Johnson will back up C Yadier Molina.

RHP Joe Kelly kept the Cardinals from being swept in the three-game series by Pittsburgh as he got credit for the win Sunday in a 7-2 victory over the Pirates. The Cardinals moved into a first-place tie with the Pirates in the National League Central. Kelly gave up only one run and four hits while striking out five and walking two. Exactly one month earlier, he beat the Pirates to keep the Cardinals from being swept in a five-game series. Since being moved into the rotation from the bullpen July 6, Kelly has gone 7-0 with a 2.15 ERA in 10 starts while also winning his last four starts. He has allowed one earned run or less in seven of those 10 starts. "Every team that's fighting for a playoff spot has that Joe Kelly, who comes around late in the season and lifts you," St. Louis third baseman David Freese said. "He's been our stopper. He's picked us up in a lot of big situations over the last couple of months."

RHP Michael Wacha will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis and start Tuesday night against the Reds at Cincinnati. Wacha went 2-0 with a 3.78 ERA in 10 games, including four starts with the Cardinals earlier this season. At Memphis, he is 5-3 with a 2.65 ERA in 15 starts.

RF Carlos Beltran was held out of the lineup Sunday because of tightness in his back. He left Saturday's loss to Pittsburgh after five innings because of the injury and is considered day-to-day.

C Yadier Molina went 2-for-5 with an RBI on Sunday in a 7-2 win at Pittsburgh, raising his batting average to .329. He had gone 2-for-15 in his previous four games.

LHP Adam Wainwright will start Monday afternoon at Cincinnati in the opener of a three-game series. He is tied for the National League lead in wins with Colorado LHP Jorge De La Rosa, Pittsburgh LHP Francisco Liriano and Washington RHP Jordan Zimmermann. Wainwright is 4-8 with a 4.84 ERA against the Reds in 19 career games (14 starts), including 1-2 with a 7.31 ERA in three starts this season.
