LF Chris Heisey started Wednesday night's game. Heisey has hit safely in six straight starts. He missed nearly two months with a hamstring injury. "He's playing a lot better," said manager Dusty Baker. "When he hurt himself he got a chance to regroup. I told him to watch and see who is hitting well and why. He had every chance to win that job. Now he's back in a situation where he's performed well." Heisey had a rough night Wednesday, going 0-for-7.

OF Billy Hamilton was still the talk of the town the day after making his major league debut by stealing a base and scoring the eventual game-winning run in a 1-0 win over St. Louis. "He said this is what it's about, especially to help us win in a pennant race like that," said manager Dusty Baker. "It is a very valuable experience for him. It's going to help him now and it's going to help him in the future." Hamilton, who led all Triple-A players with 75 steals this season, stole his second career base and scored the tying run in the 14th inning Wednesday.

LHP Tony Cingrani is coming off the disabled list to face the Cardinals, going 1-1 with a 2.60 ERA in three prior starts against them. Cingrani has been on the disabled list since Aug. 25 with a lower back strain. He threw his usual 30-pitch bullpen session Tuesday with no complications. Cingrani has 112 strikeouts in 97 2/3 innings this season.

2B Brandon Phillips' solo home run in the fifth inning Wednesday was his 100th RBI this season, a career-high. Phillips is the first Reds second baseman since Hall of Famer Joe Morgan to reach 100 RBIs in a season. Phillips is trying to become the first Reds second baseman to lead the league in RBIs. He has 18 home runs this season.

LHP Sean Marshall will throw a bullpen session Thursday and again on Saturday before being reevaluated. Marshall has been on the DL since May 24 with left shoulder tendonitis. He threw successful 25-pitch bullpen sessions on Sunday, his first off the mound since having a setback just before the All-Star break, and Tuesday.
