LHP Martin Perez is schedule to make his 16th start and has won each of his last six starts, the first Texas pitcher to win at least six straight starts since Kenny Rogers won eight in a row in 2005. His nine wins are tied for the most among American League rookies with Oakland's Dan Straily.
LF Jim Adduci was pulled from Monday's game with a right biceps strain after striking out in the fifth inning. The Rangers are already shorthanded in the outfield due to Nelson Cruz's 50-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy, and David Murphy continues to be mired in a hitting slump.
RHP Yu Darvish lost a third straight start for the first time of his career and this was also the third 1-0 game this season in which he suffered a loss. With six strikeouts, Darvish added to his major league leading total of 246.
RF Alex Rios went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base, and has hit safely in 21 of 27 games since joining the Rangers in a trade from the Chicago White Sox.
LHP Matt Harrison underwent surgery Monday to remove a rib from his right side in an effort to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome. It was Harrison's third operation of the season, as he had back procedures April 23 and May 1. He is expected to be ready for the start of spring training. Harrison, 27, made just two appearances for Texas this season, both in the first week of the season. He went 0-2 with an 8.44 ERA.
SS Elvis Andrus stole second and third base after reaching on a walk in the sixth inning, giving him a career-best 39 stolen bases on the season. His previous high was 37 stolen bases in 2011. He also has 162 career stolen bases, passing Bump Wills (161) for second-most in Rangers history, trailing only second baseman Ian Kinsler (170). Andrus has 20 steals since the All-Star break.
