RHP Josh Collmenter surrendered an 11th-inning home run to pinch hitter Scott Van Slyke on Tuesday as he picked up the loss. Collmenter, who leads NL relievers in innings pitched, came in on a hot streak, with just one earned run in his last 20 1/3 innings.
1B Paul Goldschmidt continued his tear against the Dodgers as he went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored on his 26th birthday on Tuesday. It was Goldschmidt's eighth multi-hit game in 14 games against Los Angeles this season.
LHP Patrick Corbin has lost his All-Star form the last few weeks but takes the mound Wednesday against a Dodgers squad against which he has had success. Coming off three straight losses, including a 3-0 defeat to San Francisco on Sept. 6, Corbin can rectify his down streak against Los Angeles, against whom he has a 2.49 ERA and 2-1 career record in five games.
SS Didi Gregorius is picking up a little power late in the year, bashing his seventh home run Tuesday. It was Gregorius' second homer in four games over the last week, during which he has five RBI.
RHP Trevor Cahill allowed just one earned run on four hits in a no-decision against Los Angeles on Tuesday. Cahill remained unbeaten (5-0) against the Dodgers, with a 2.04 ERA in his sixth start since returning from the disabled list on Aug. 17. He's 3-0 in that span.
