Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 3 (11): Scott Van Slyke belted a pinch-hit two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning as host Los Angeles beat Arizona for the fifth consecutive time.
Van Slyke lined a breaking ball off Josh Collmenter (4-3) into the left-field seats for his first career walk-off homer as the Dodgers reduced their magic number for clinching the National League West to six and dealt another blow to the Diamondbacks' fading playoff hopes.
Chris Withrow (3-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win and Andre Ethier had an RBI double as Los Angeles dropped Arizona 13 games back in the division and nine games behind Cincinnati for the second wild card. Didi Gregorius had a two-run homer for the Diamondbacks, who fell to 16-7 in extra innings this season.
The Dodgers pushed across two runs in the second on groundouts by starting pitcher Edinson Volquez and Yasiel Puig, but Arizona responded with an RBI single by Miguel Montero in the fourth and Gregorius' towering two-run shot in the fifth. Los Angeles tied it in the bottom of the inning when Trevor Cahill issued a pair of two-out walks before Ethier doubled in a run.
Volquez went six innings in his second start with the Dodgers, allowing three runs on four hits. Cahill also went six innings, permitting three runs - one earned - on four hits and four walks.
