MLB Team Report - Los Angeles Dodgers - INSIDE PITCH
There has been speculation about what the Dodgers will do with four healthy outfielders when Matt Kemp returns. Now it looks as if Kemp might be the only healthy one of the group.
Kemp could return to action as early as Monday in Arizona now that Carl Crawford (back stiffness), Yasiel Puig (sore hip) and Andre Ethier (sore left ankle) are all nursing nagging injuries.
"We'll see him in Arizona. We'll see where he's at and if he's ready to roll we'll do something," manager Don Mattingly said of Kemp before the Dodgers' 4-3 loss to the Giants on Sunday. "Obviously, the position we're in at the moment, we feel we can be cautious with guys who need a day and give it to them sooner rather than later.
"Andre's kind of banged up a little bit. It's an opportunity to play (Kemp) without having to juggle things."
Kemp has not played since severely spraining his left ankle on July 21. He went hitless in 19 plate appearances for Class A Rancho Cucamonga on a rehab assignment. The rehab stint ended when the minor league season did, and Kemp has spent the past two weeks working out at the Dodgers' training complex in Arizona, hitting in simulated-game situations with a group of minor-leaguers also working out there.
Kemp's rehab was set back last week when he injured his left hamstring. He began running the bases during workouts over the weekend and could be ready to rejoin the Dodgers in time to use the final 13 games of the regular season to get ready for a potential playoff role.

--OF Yasiel Puig was not in the lineup Sunday due to a sore left hip, though he grounded out as a pinch hitter to end the game. Puig aggravated the hip problem on a diving catch Saturday. He is day-to-day.
--OF Andre Ethier left Friday's game with a sore left ankle, and he didn't play Saturday and Sunday. An MRI and X-rays revealed no structural damage, but Ethier was using a walking boot over the weekend and will not be available to play for at least a couple of days.
--LHP Chris Capuano tried throwing a bullpen session Friday but felt renewed discomfort in his injured left groin muscle. He will not pitch for an undetermined length of time while letting the muscle heal.
--OF Carl Crawford, who left Saturday's game early due to back stiffness, did not play Sunday and is listed as day-to-day. Crawford went 1-for-16 during the Dodgers' homestand.
--RHP Jose Dominguez was transferred to the 60-day disabled list, clearing a spot on the Dodgers' 40-man roster for CF Nick Buss. He has been out since July 23 due to a strained left quadriceps.

--RHP Edinson Volquez was fantastic for much of the game against the Giants on Sunday. However, he struggled against San Francisco RF Hunter Pence. Volquez allowed two home runs to Pence and finished with three runs allowed on five hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision in what manager Don Mattingly considered his best performance in four starts since joining the Dodgers.
--SS Dee Gordon continued to inject some speed into the lineup as he went 2-for-4 in his first start since Aug. 11. Gordon also stole his third base since his recall on Sept. 1 (his ninth steal overall).
--OF Matt Kemp, who has been sidelined since July 21 with a sprained ankle, could make his return this week, as he is expected to join the team in Arizona. Kemp has been running more of late, and the Dodgers hope he can return healthy for the postseason.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "Really pretty good. Two pitches and they were up. We didn't question the pitches, just execution. That's one guy you don't leave the ball up to at all. But he was really good -- it was probably his best outing with us in terms of his composure and tempo. He just didn't execute a couple pitches." -- Manager Don Mattingly, on Sunday's outing by RHP Edinson Volquez, who gave up two homers to Giants RF Hunter Pence in the Dodgers' 4-3 loss.
