Rangers 8, Mariners 6: Mitch Moreland drove in three runs and scored twice as host Texas defeated Seattle for the third straight day.
J.P. Arencibia had two RBIs and Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled twice, scored twice and had one RBI for the Rangers. Shin-Soo Choo homered and Texas racked up 12 hits while winning the four-game series.
Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer – his first since joining the Mariners – and Corey Hart followed the third-inning blast with one of his own. Dustin Ackley contributed two hits, including a two-run double to cap a six-run third-inning uprising.
Moreland hit a two-run single during a three-run first and Choo homered in the second off Erasmo Ramirez to make it 4-0. Seattle erupted for its big inning off Tanner Scheppers to take a two-run advantage before Moreland’s RBI double and Arencibia’s infield out tied the game in the bottom of the third.
Another Arencibia groundout pushed Texas on top in the fifth and David Murphy scored later in the inning when Joe Beimel (0-1) uncorked a wild pitch. Reliever Pedro Figueroa (2-1) retired all five batters he faced and Joakim Soria worked a flawless ninth for his second save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Scheppers allowed six runs and six hits in 2 1/3 innings, and Ramirez was charged with five runs and six hits in two-plus innings. … Kouzmanoff is thriving as the replacement for injured 3B Adrian Beltre and is batting .414 with six RBIs during an eight-game hitting streak. … Seattle recalled OF James Jones from Triple-A Tacoma and placed RHP Blake Beavan (shoulder) on the disabled list.
