Astros 4, Mariners 1: George Springer and Marc Krauss each belted two-run homers while Dallas Keuchel won his fourth straight start as visiting Houston earned a split of the four-game series.
Keuchel (6-2) allowed one unearned run, four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out six for his second complete-game effort of the season. Springer’s blast was his fourth in his last three contests while Krauss, Matt Dominguez and Jose Altuve collected two hits apiece for the Astros.
Mike Zunino had a hit and scored the only run for the Mariners, who were retired 1-2-3 from the third through the sixth innings. Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma (3-1) yielded four runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out six in his fifth start of the season.
Zunino singled to lead off the second inning for Seattle and later scored after an infield hit by Cole Gillespie and Keuchel’s throwing error on the play. Altuve singled with one out in the sixth though and trotted home on Springer’s home run to left field that extended his hitting streak to seven games and gave Houston a 2-1 lead.
Dominquez started the seventh with a ground-rule double and Krauss followed with his fourth homer of the season into the right-field seats. Keuchel has given up only five runs (four earned) during his four-game win streak and threw 106 pitches against the Mariners for his third career complete game.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Altuve finished the series 9-for-16 with four runs scored and three RBIs. …Seattle CF James Jones was 0-for-4, ending his 14-game hitting streak. … Seattle hosts the Los Angeles Angels to begin a four-game series and Houston starts a three-game set at Kansas City on Monday.
