RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Clarence Seedorf wept tears of joy after Botafogo secured fourth spot with a 3-0 victory over Criciuma in the final round of the Campeonato Brasileiro on Sunday.

But Botafogo could be stripped of a berth in next year's Copa Libertadores if Brazilian rivals Ponte Preta defeat Argentina's Lanus in Wednesday's Copa Sudamericana final second leg.

"I hope that during the week we will be lucky enough to qualify for the Copa Libertadores," an emotional Seedorf said after the match. "This group deserves it for all the work and effort we did.

"We still have to wait and see. We were able to finish in the top four. We have performed well this year and everybody deserves to be congratulated. We appreciate the support of the fans which was crucial today," he said.

Botafogo have not played in the Copa Libertadores - South America's elite club competition - since 1996.

Ponte Preta have to score at least twice in Buenos Aires to claim Brazil's fourth Libertadores spot after being held to a 1-1 home draw in last week's first leg.
