Jordan cleric dismisses terrorism charges

AMMAN, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Radical Islamist cleric Abu Qatada pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to all charges of terrorism, according to his lawyer.

Abu Qatada protested at Tuesday's trial because of the presence of one military judge although he got assurances that the judges will be civilians, his lawyer Ghazi Thneibat told Xinhua.

His trial has been adjourned until December 24, the lawyer added.

The hardline Islamist cleric was charged with planning to carry out terrorist attacks in Jordan in 1999 and 2000.

Abu Qatada, whose real name is Omar Mahmoud Othman, was deported from UK to Jordan in July this year.
