PARIS, May 24 (Xinhua) -- French Foreign Affairs Minister Laurent Fabius on Saturday hailed the ceasefire agreement between Malian authorities and Tuareg rebels, affirming Paris support to promote security and peace in the region.
"We call for the immediate and full implementation of the agreement in order to launch comprehensive process, backed by the regional and the international community, which allows a final settlement of the crisis in northern Mali," French top diplomat said.
"This is the plan to end the crisis in which France is working alongside with Malian parties and the international partners," he added.
In statement, Fabius also paid tribute to Mauritanian president and also the head of the African Union Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz who brokered the ceasefire accord.
