WFP expresses concern over massive influx of South Sudan refugees to Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA, June 11 (Xinhua) - - The World Food Program (WFP) has expressed concern Wednesday over the massive influx of refugees from South Sudan to Ethiopia due to the conflict erupted in South Sudan last December.

WFP Representative and Country Director, Abdou Dieng, told reporters in Addis Ababa that Ethiopia is hosting more than half a million refugees coming mainly from Somalia, South Sudan, and Eritrea.

Dieng stated that WFP in collaboration with the Ethiopian Government and donors has carried out different activities benefiting about five million people in 2013.

Dieng said the challenging is ahead as a massive influx of refugees from South Sudan due to the conflict in that country.

He stated that WFP has shortfall of resources estimated about 49-50 million U.S. dollars to cover the need of refugees until the end of the year.
