Indian PM to visit Bhutan Sunday

NEW DELHI, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bhutan Sunday on a two-day trip to the Himalayan nation, his first foreign tour since assuming office last month.

Aiming at bolstering trade and energy ties, Modi will meet Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.

"Our relations with Bhutan are unique and especially warm. Our historical and cultural linkages make us natural friends and partners. Bhutan is one of our most important strategic partners. We will explore ways and means of strengthening our ties in important areas," Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh told the media in the national capital Saturday.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and the Foreign Secretary will accompany Modi to Bhutan.
