NANCHANG, July 17 (Xinhua) -- China will host an international conference on lake protection, the first of its kind in the country, in November, organizers announced on Thursday.

More than 200 environmental experts, academics and government officials from 80 countries are expected to attend the 14th World Living Lakes Conference in Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi Province, to exchange views on urbanization, controlling lake pollution and protecting biodiversity and wetlands, according to the conference organization committee under the Jiangxi provincial government.

Jiangxi is home to Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China.

The conference was initiated by World Living Lakes Network (WLLN), a non-government organization established by Global Nature Fund in 1998 with the aim of protecting lakes and wetlands worldwide and ensuring sustainable development of these areas.

WLLN currently has 102 member lakes from 80 countries and 120 associates. Poyang Lake joined the network in 2003 as the only member lake from China.
