BUDAPEST, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish women' s water polo team beat the Netherlands for gold medal at the European Water Polo Championships in Budapest on Saturday, winning with a score of 10-5 (3-3, 2-0, 2-2, 3-0).
The Spanish women won the European title for the first time in history. They won the World Championships in 2013.
The Hungarians beat Italy 10-9 for bronze. The Russians claimed fifth, the Greeks took sixth. The French team and the British team finished seventh and eighth respectively.
Italy' s Giulia Gorlero won the top goalkeeper award. The MVP was Maria Carmen Garcia Godoy of the Spanish winning team.
The men' s final, in which Hungary faces Serbia and the contest for third place among the men between Montenegro and Italy are on Sunday.
