Starting salaries for Singaporean graduates up slightly this year: report
SINGAPORE, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The starting salaries for fresh graduates coming out of universities in Singapore this year rose slightly, according to a latest survey.
The report by management consulting firm Hay Group showed that the average monthly starting salary for degree holders without honors rose by 2.2 percent to 2,741 Singapore dollars (2,193 U.S. dollars).
Those degree holders with honors (second lower) can expect to earn 2,853 Singapore dollars, up 2.1 percent, while the starting salaries for those with honors (second upper) rose by 1.6 percent to 2,939 Singapore dollars.
The survey also showed that one out of five employers placed an average premium of 214 Singapore dollars per month for local university graduates compared with non-local university graduates, the survey showed.
Diploma holders can expect an average starting salary of 1,878 Singapore dollars per month, up two percent year on year, according to the survey, which was based on salary expectations of 95 organizations.
Degree holders in engineering commanded the highest average starting salary, followed by jobs in the legal and information technology sectors. (1 U.S. dollar = 1.25 Singapore dollars)
