Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100 GMT, Aug.26

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks dropped 0.59 percent Tuesday as market sentiment was cooled by the yen's appreciation and profit-taking after recent rallies.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average declined 92.03 points, from Monday at 15,521.22.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 6.30 points, or 0.49 percent, lower at 1, 285.01.

The turnover was 1,531.9 billion yen (about 14.75 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 92.41 points, or 0.37 percent to 25,074.50 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,068.98 to 25, 188.31. Turnover totaled 64.47 billion HK dollars (about 8.32 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese shares closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.99 percent to finish at 2,207.11 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index dipped 1.52 percent to close at 7, 813.98 points.

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 0.03 percent on Tuesday with the weighted index up 3.34 points at 9,393.96, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 89.56 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.99 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday down 0.02 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 0.31 points to 1,416.11. A total of 16,244 shares worth about 122 million Lao kip (about 15,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 7. 16 points, or 0.35 percent, to close at 2,068.05. Trading volume stood at 284.88 million shares worth 3.62 trillion won (3.56 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.19 percent higher on Tuesday. The local market was closed on Monday for a public holiday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index rose by 13.26 points to 7,146.35. The all-share index also went up by 3.87 points, or 0.09 percent, to 4,221.42.

Trading volume reached 1.48 billion shares worth 10.26 billion pesos (234.32 million U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 629.06 points on Tuesday, up 3.18 points, or 0.51 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 135.433 million shares worth 2.594 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (122.13 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 668.25 points, up 6.49 points, or 0.98 percent.

A total of 61.209 million shares worth 1.577 trillion VND (74. 24 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Tuesday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 85.69 points on Tuesday, up 0.89 points, or 1.04 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 90.55 million shares worth 1.163 trillion Vietnamese dong (55.12 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, a decrease of 0.03 percent in volume and an increase of 1.22 percent in value against Monday.

HNXFF-Index, the new benchmark to replace the HNX-Index from December 2014, closed at 85.59 points, up 1.01 points or 1.19 percent on Tuesday.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 38.40 points, or 0. 74 percent, to a level of 5,146.55 on Tuesday.

Some 214,367 transactions were booked, involving 5.48 billion shares worth 5.12 trillion rupiah (about 437.05 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,861.82 down 0. 49 of a point or 0.03 percent, and the Emas was at 13,011.70 down 2.10 points or 0.02 percent.

Turnover increased to 3.29 billion shares valued at 2.12 billion ringgit Malaysia (670.67 million U.S. dollars), compared with 3.01 billion shares valued at 1.98 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 625.89 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 7.26 points, or 0.22 percent, to close at 3,323.02.

A total of 1.48 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 853 million Singapore dollars (682 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved down 2.96 points, or 0.19 percent to close at 1,563.13 points.

Some 10.16 billion shares worth 45.99 billion baht (about 1.44 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's Colombo stock exchange rose 29.29 points, or 0.42 percent, to close at 7,013.32 on Tuesday, returning to three year highs seen last week.

Trading volume stood at 125 million shares worth 1.7 billion rupees (about 13.1 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed flat Tuesday with the BSE bench mark index Sensex closing at 26,442.81 points, 5.79 points or 0.02 percent up from the previous close of 26,437.02 points.

Capital goods, oil and gas as well as bank stocks plunged, while healthy buying was observed in healthcare, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and information technology (IT) sectors.
