SEOUL, March 22 (Yonhap) -- President Park Geun-hye will retain Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin, her spokeswoman said Friday, shortly after her nominee for defense minister offered to resign over a series of alleged ethical lapses.

Park made the decision considering the urgent security situation following North Korea's repeated war threats, presidential spokeswoman Kim Haing said in a press briefing.

Park also believes the appointment of a defense minister cannot be delayed any further by political disputes or the parliamentary confirmation process, Kim said.
