SEOUL, March 22 (Yonhap) -- A Seoul court on Friday ordered two state prosecutors to pay fines of up to 5 million won (US$4,465) for copying and circulating a photo of a female suspect at the center of a sex scandal.
The Seoul Central District court asked one prosecutor to pay 5 million won and the other 3 million won for violating the personal data protection act. Identities of both prosecutors were withheld.
Another official from the prosecution's office, who is not a prosecutor, was also fined 5 million won for posting a copy of the photo on the popular domestic mobile messenger service called Kakao Talk.
The scandal centers around a trainee prosecutor said to have had sex with the female suspect he was questioning in his office last year on suspicion of theft. A photo of the 42-year-old woman spread on the Internet and the woman filed a complaint with police.
Last month, prosecutors sought only summary judgments against the two prosecutors who leaked the photo, drawing criticism that prosecutors were trying to protect their own.
