SEOUL, July 1 (Yonhap) -- President Park Geun-hye on Monday sent a telegram congratulating South Korean golfer Park In-bee on winning the U.S. Women's Open on the LPGA Tour for her third straight major championship title.
Sunday's win made the world's No. 1-ranked female golfer only the second golfer, after Babe Zaharias in 1950, to sweep up the first three majors of an LPGA season. Park won the season's first two majors, the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April and the Wegmans LPGA Championship in June.
"I join the Korean people in congratulating you on setting the great record of winning the three consecutive major titles for the first time in 63 years," the president said in the message, according to her office. "I hope your passion and dream will continue to lead to victories."
