SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Dec. 19-25, 2013.

December

19 The fourth round of the meeting of the North-South joint committee for the Kaesong Industrial Zone (KIZ) takes place at the factory complex.

19 Dennis Rodman, former NBA star, arrives in Pyongyang for his third visit to North Korea this year.

19 Women of foreign embassies and missions of international bodies in Pyongyang visit Okryu Children's Hospital in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 96th birth anniversary of Kim Jong-suk, grandmother of leader Kim Jong-un.

19 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says DPRK (North Korea) Premier Pak Pong-ju sent a congratulatory message to Werner Faymann upon his reappointment as federal chancellor of Austria on Dec. 18.

19 The KCNA says Korean film shows took place in Ethiopia, Guinea, Indonesia and Malaysia from Dec. 1 to 13 on the occasion of the second anniversary of the demise of leader Kim Jong-il.

19 The charge d'affaires ad interim and the military attache of the Vietnamese Embassy in Pyongyang hosts a reception at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club in Pyongyang on the occasion of the Vietnamese Army Day.

20 Round-table talks with the inhabitants who returned to the DPRK from South Korea took place at the Koryo Hall of Compatriots in Pyongyang.

20 The KCNA says North Korean leader Kim Jong-un received a message from Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Ugandan president, on Dec. 5.

20 The KCNA says meetings took place at ministries, national institutions, industrial establishments, co-op farms, universities and colleges across the country to adopt letters fully supporting the decision at the enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK) and pledging loyalty for Kim Jong-un.

20 The KCNA says Premier Pak Pong-ju sent a congratulatory message to Angela Merkel on Dec. 18 on her resumption of office as chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.

20 Kim Jong-un receives a gift from Abdelaziz Bouteflika, president of Algeria, on the occasion of the New Year.

20 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), meets with the delegation of Koreans in at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

21 A meeting takes place to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Chemical Construction Complex.

21 A national exhibition of landscape paintings, embroideries and handicrafts opens at the Pyongyang International House of Culture to celebrate the 96th birth anniversary of Kim Jong-suk.

21 Families of Zhang Wei-hua, Chinese anti-Japanese revolutionary martyr, and Zhou Wei, daughter of Zhou Bao-zhong, Chinese related to the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, lave Pyongyang for home after participating in the memorial service for Kim Jong-il.

22 Top North Korean military officials, including Choe Ryong-hae, Ri Yong-gil and Jang Jong-nam, visit lodgings of the participants in the Meeting of Activists in Fisheries of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA).

22 The statues of President Kim Il-sung and leader Kim Jong-il are erected in Wonsan City, Kangwon Province, on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Kim Jong-il's assumption of the supreme commandership of the KPA.

22 Rodong Sinmun, the organ of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party, denounces U.S. scheme to shift blame for deteriorating situation on Korean Peninsula.

23 Oleg Shishov, director general of the "Mostovik" Scientific-Industrial Company of Russia, and his party arrive in Pyongyang.

23 Dennis Rodman departs Pyongyang after a five-day visit to North Korea. Rodman said in Beijing on his way home he was not disappointed that did not meet with Kim Jong-un.

23 The KCNA says DPRK players proved successful at the 2013 Short-Track Speed Skating Competition for Danubia Cup and Slovak Open.

24 Kim Jong-un visits the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang, where the embalmed bodies of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il lie in state, together with commanding officers of the KPA.

24 Pak Pong-Ju meets with Oleg Shishov, the director general of the "Mostovik" Scientific-Industrial Company of Russia, who paid a courtesy call on him at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

24 A KPA Song and Dance Ensemble gives a performance entitled "General Is Banner of Eternal Victory" at the April 25 House of Culture in Pyongyang to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of Kim Jong-il's assumption of supreme commandership of the KPA.

24 Participants in the Meeting of Activists in Fisheries of the KPA visit the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun to pay tribute to Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.

24 The military attaches corps in Pyongyang visit the Nov. 16 Factory of the KPA on the 22nd anniversary of Kim Jong-il's assumption of supreme commandership of the KPA and the 2nd anniversary of Kim Jong-un's assumption of the same post.

25 The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of (North) Korea (CPRK) issues an open questionnaire claiming that South Korea's Park Geun-hye government should choose between trust and confrontation with North Korea.

25 The KCNA says the (North) Korea Publications Export and Import Corporation has published various kinds of calendars for 2014.

25 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un visited the Command of Large Combined Unit 526 of the KPA to congratulate its service personnel.

25 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un on Dec. 24 sent a wreath to the bier of professor and Dr. Kim Jong-se, the Kim Il-sung Prize winner and researcher at Kim Chaek University of Technology, expressing deep condolences for his death.
