CHRONOLOGICAL REVIEW

SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from April 10-16, 2014.

April

10 A meeting of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces takes place to congratulate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on his re-election as first chairman of the National Defense Commission (NDC) of the DPRK.

10 A Pyongyang city rally takes place with splendor at Kim Il-sung Square to congratulate supreme leader Kim Jong-un on his re-election as first chairman of the NDC.

10 Kim Jong-un had a photo session with the deputies to the 13th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK in front of the statues of President Kim Il-sung and leader Kim Jong-il on Mansu Hill.

10 An Indonesian government cultural delegation headed by Hari Untoro Dradjat, senior advisor to the minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, arrives in Pyongyang to participate in the 16th Kimilsungia Festival.

10 A meeting of youth and students takes place at the Central Youth Hall on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of holding Kim Jong-un at the helm of the Workers' Party of Korea and the state.

10 The State Industrial Art Exhibition opens with due ceremony at the State Industrial Art Exhibition Hall to celebrate the birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung.

11 Marathoners from Russia, Ukraine, Spain and Taiwan arrive in Pyongyang to take part in the IAAF-27th Mangyongdae Prize Marathon to be held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung.

11 The Policy Department of NDC warns U.S. not to find fault with military measures of the DPRK.

11 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) hits in a commentary the three-party negotiations in Washington, D.C. among the heads of the U.S, Japan and South Korean delegations to the six-party talks on the nuclear issue.

11 A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry claims the recent remarks of the U.S. secretary of defense were "intended to shift the blame for the escalating tension to the DPRK and justify the arms buildup for carrying out the U.S. pivot to Asia-Pacific strategy."

12 The North's National Peace Committee of Korea denounces the Max Thunder joint air exercises as an undisguised challenge to all Koreans desirous of improved inter-Korean relations, and peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and in Northeast Asia.

12 The KCNA says North Korean student Han Il-yong took the special place at the Third International Concours "Mars" held in Moscow from March 22 to April 6.

12 Rodong Sinmun slams South Korean President Park Geun-hye's unification initiative as "a revelation of the trick to pass the buck for tensions between the north and the south to the DPRK and carry out the confrontation policy at any cost.

12 A meeting of foreign crewmen takes place at Hungnam Port, South Hamgyong Province, to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung (Day of the Sun).

13 Members of the art group of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace give a performance at the palace to celebrate the birth anniversary of Kim Il-sung (Day of the Sun).

13 The 16th Kimilsungia Festival opens in Pyongyang on the occasion of the birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung.

13 Officers and men of the Korean People's Army hold a ceremony at the plaza of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun to pay tribute to Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, and take an oath to be loyal to Kim Jong-un on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.

13 Kang Sok-ju, a member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, has a talk with the delegation of the Workers' Party of Mexico headed by National Leader Alberto Anaya Gutierrez.

13 Dancing parties of youth and students take place in various parts of the DPRK to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Kim Jong-un's election to the top posts of the Workers' Party of Korea and the state.

13 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un received a congratulatory message from China's President Xi Jinping on his re-election as the first chairman of the NDC of the DPRK on April 11.

14 A national meeting takes place at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium to celebrate the 102nd birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung.

14 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, sends a message of sympathy to Daniel Ortega Saavedra, the president of Nicaragua, as regards to an earthquake that hit Nicaragua, causing human casualties and material losses.

14 An AFP delegation headed by its Global News Director Philippe Massonnet arrives in Pyongyang for a three-day visit.

14 The KCNA says the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) hosted a banquet in honor of the delegation of the Workers' Party of Mexico (WPM) on a visit to the DPRK on April 13.

14 The KCNA says members of the art group of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace give a performance on April 13 at the palace to celebrate the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung (Day of the Sun).

15 Kim Jong-un visits the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun at 00:00, on April 15, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung (Day of the Sun).

15 Foreign guests and overseas Koreans participating in the 16th Kimilsungia Festival visited Mangyongdae, the birthplace of Kim Il-sung.

15 Kim Yong-nam has a friendly talk with directors of the International Kim Il-sung Prize Council and the International Kim Jong Il Prize Council who paid a courtesy call on him at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

15 The first term of camping begins at schoolchildren's camps in Pyongyang and in other parts of the country on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Kim Il-sung.

15 Kim Yong-nam, Pak Pong-ju and other senior party and state officials visit the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, on the birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung (Day of the Sun).

15 The DPRK's leading newspapers devote special write-ups to the birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung.

16 The KCNA says the AFP delegation headed by its global news director Philippe Massonnet visited the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum on April 15. The AFP delegation left Pyongyang on April 16.

16 The KCNA says an event "Night of Korean cultural art for celebrating Day of the Sun" took place in Beijing on April 13.

16 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un sent a message of greeting to Bashar Al-Assad, the president of the Syrian Arab Republic, on April 14 on the 68th anniversary of Syrian independence.
