SEOUL, June 10 (Yonhap) -- An opposition party official will join President Park Geun-hye on her trip to Central Asian countries next week, a senior opposition party official said Tuesday, a move that could help facilitate dialogue between the ruling and opposition parties.
It is the first time an official presidential delegation has included an opposition party lawmaker since Park took office last year.
Rep. Park Young-sun, floor leader of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy, said the move is designed to provide an opportunity for dialogue between the president and the opposition party.
The floor leader Park made the comments during a party meeting, though she said no decision has been made on who will join the president on her trip to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan from June 16 to 21.
The president has long been branded by her critics as "uncommunicative" for allegedly refusing to listen to what critics and others have to say and insisting only on what she believes to be right.
