SEOUL, July 23 (Yonhap) -- President Park Geun-hye called Wednesday for the strengthening of training in software development, saying the future of the country's information technology (IT) industry depends on it.
Park made the remarks during a meeting with software developers and relevant government officials at Pangyo Techno Valley, just south of Seoul, in a move underscoring her commitment to a "creative economy."
Park's vision for a creative economy centers on creating new business opportunities, industries and jobs through the fusion of information and communication technology, culture and other realms.
"We must also strengthen software education starting at elementary and middle schools so that our future generations, who will be the principal actors of a software-centered society, may develop computational thinking," she said, citing greater computer education at schools in Britain, India, Japan and China.
"In order for our country to develop further as an IT powerhouse, securing competitiveness in the software sector is a pressing task," she added.
