NAMYANGJU, South Korea, Aug. 2 (Yonhap) -- One person was killed and four others injured in a car pileup allegedly caused by a dozing-off truck driver, police said Saturday.
The accident took place at around 3:40 p.m. in Namyangju, east of Seoul, when a 25-ton truck smashed into a passenger car waiting for a signal at an intersection. Three more cars were also involved in the pileup.
A 41-year-old sports utility vehicle driver was killed, police said, adding that four others were injured but none of them was in life threatening condition.
Police said that the truck driver, identified only by his surname Kwon, had confessed he was dozing off before the crash. A further investigation is needed to determine the exact cause of the accident, they said.
