SEOUL, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's No. 2 automaker, released its first teaser image of its brand new Sorento SUV's interior on Tuesday, ahead of its global debut set for late August.
The image shows the driver and front passenger seats as well as the steering wheel, dashboard and center stack, and gear selector, along with some details of the door paneling.
The rendering comes a week after Kia revealed its first exterior images of its third generation midsize SUV.
The carmaker, part of Hyundai Motor Group, the world's fifth-largest automotive conglomerate, said it chose "Modern and Wide" as its main design motif, with emphasis placed on creating an upscale ambiance within the vehicle.
"The high-end and expansive interior with wrap-around styling aims to rival those of larger, premium SUVs," the carmaker said.
It claimed that the new layout will give the Sorento a sleek and refined, yet strong, character.
The company said that it has paid special attention to each knob and dial on the car, with the ergonomically-designed center stack topped with the car's main infotainment display and air vents to give it a distinctive, modern feel.
The Sorento was first launched in 2002, with the second generation model reaching the market in 2009. It has sold more than 2 million units as of June, and has played a role in making Kia a credible player in the global SUV segment.
Kia said the new model will be 95 millimeters longer from bumper to bumper, and have a 80 mm longer wheelbase that should improve driving characteristics and passenger space.
The car is made up of 53 percent high tensile steel to enhance the car's rigidity and make it more crash-worthy.
