Brazil. Russia. India. China. Four rising powers. One blog to explain them all.

After a gap of three years, defence secretaries of India and Pakistan on Monday met in New Delhi to discuss a long-running dispute over the Siachen glacier, the Hindu reports.

Siachen is the world’s highest militarized zone, as India and Pakistan continue to dispute the proper location of the 110-km long Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL), which passes through the Soltoro Ridge and Siachen Glacier, the paper said.

The subject of sporadic skirmishes and at least one mid-scale war since 1984, Siachen glacier has cost more than 2,000 soldiers their lives--mostly due to the harsh terrain and the elements rather than shots fired in anger. Both India and Pakistan have bases at higher than 6,000 meters (or 20,000 feet).
