One of the best documentaries you will see this year opens at the IFC Center in New York tomorrow, and will soon be released across the US. “My Perestroika” is a beautiful, tragic, amazingly researched film that documents the lives of five friends – from their childhoods, to the hopes and dreams that filled them as teenagers in the dying days of the Soviet Union, to their adult lives in contemporary Russia.

Director Robin Hessman worked on the film for 10 years, got amazing access to archival footage and put together a film that does wonders in explaining current Russian reality. I just can’t say enough good things about it. Reserve your tickets now.
