The Hebrew University in Jerusalem will present singer Barbra Streisand with an honorary doctorate.

The 71 year old will receive the Ph.D. at a ceremony on June 17 during the Hebrew University International Board of Governors meeting in Jerusalem, Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported.

The iconic singer and actress is being recognized for “her professional achievements, outstanding humanitarianism, leadership in the realm of human and civil rights, and dedication to Israel and the Jewish people," the university said in a statement.

“Barbra Streisand’s transcendent talent is matched by her passionate concern for equality and opportunity for people of every gender and background,” Hebrew University President Menahem Ben-Sasson said.

“Equally important, her love of Israel and her Jewish heritage are reflected in so many aspects of her life and career," he said, according to Haaretz.

The Jewish legend will hold two concerts in Israel next month. She has never performed in Israel although she has visited the Jewish state many times, the Jerusalem Post noted.

She is expected to be perform at the Presidential Conference in Jerusalem in honor of President Shimon Peres’s birthday in June.

Streisand already counts an honorary doctorate in Arts and Humanities from Brandeis University among her many accomplishments.
