American singer Chris Brown has canceled a stadium concert in Guyana following local protests over his assault three years ago of then-girlfriend Rihanna.
AP reported concert promoter, Hits & Jams Entertainment, confirmed Brown cited "discomfort with the protests" from women's rights groups and opposition lawmakers.
The rallies had warned Brown to stay away from Guyana, the hometown of Rihanna's mother.
Brown was billed to headline a December 26 concert.
In 2009, Rihanna was hospitalized after Brown hit and tried to choke her during an argument in Los Angeles. He pleaded guilty to assault and has undergone counseling.
Interestingly, Brown and Rihanna are rumoured to have rekindled their relationship, spotted at numerous events in the past month, Enstarz reported.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year, Rihanna confirmed they still have a 'very close friendship' and added she felt sympathy for him in the wake of the violent attack, the Daily Mail reported.
"I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. The main thing for me is that he is at peace. I'm not at peace if he is unhappy or he is still lonely. I care. It actually matters that he finds peace."
