Elton John hospitalized with respiratory infection

Elton John has been hospitalized in LA with a severe respirtory infection and will miss several shows.

Elton John has been hospitalized in LA with a severe respiratory infection. 

The 65-year-old 'Rocket Man' singer had to cancel several shows in Las Vegas this week due to illness, according to the AFP. 

John developed a serious respiratory infection last weekend while performing at The Colosseum on Sunday, May 20, according to a statement on his website. John's condition reportedly worsened throughout the week, until doctor's checked him in to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Doctors reportedly told John to not perform for at least the next seven days and stay on complete bed rest.

John has taken up residence at Caesars Palace with his show, 'Million Dollar Piano.' It was schedule to run for the next two years. The LA Times reported he will miss the final four concerts scheduled at the Colosseum, abruptly ending the first year of performances. The singer and his band will leave Las Vegas for a summer tour in Europe, which kicks off June 1 in Germany.

John is due to perform in a concert in front of Buckingham Palace on June 4 with with Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue and Chinese piano virtuoso Lang Lang, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's diamond jubilee.

"It feels strange not to be able to perform," John said in a statement. "I love performing this show and I will be thrilled when we return to the Colosseum in October to complete the 11 concerts soon to be scheduled. All I can say to the fans is sorry I can't be with you."
