Forbes' most powerful celebrities: Jennifer Lopez, Oprah, Justin Bieber top the list

GlobalPost

LOS ANGELES — Forbes' released its 100 most powerful celebrities list on Wednesday, ranking Jennifer Lopez, Oprah, Justin Bieber, and Rihanna among the top spots.

Lopez, who earned $52 million in the last 12 months, staged a major comeback to knock last year's winner Lady Gaga to the fifth spot.

Jennifer Lopez, also known as J. Lo, climbed her way to the top with the help of her new judge's seat on American Idol, a high-profile divorce from her ex-husband Marc Anthony, and lucrative endorsement deals with companies like L’Oreal and Gillette, Forbes reported.

She also has a line of clothing at Kohl’s, a top-selling fragrance, and a healthy online fan base, including 6.6 million followers on Twitter and 12 million fans on Facebook, according to Forbes.

The list differs from most of Forbes' rankings in that it does not just consider earnings, but takes into account the stars' overall fame and Internet presence as well, Entertainment Weekly reported

"Though Lopez’s earnings are less than Winfrey’s or Spielberg’s ($52 million vs. $165 million and $130 million, respectively), her enormous visibility and social media presence helped the multi-hyphenate snag the list’s top spot," wrote EW's Hillary Busis.

Lady Gaga's earnings slid from $90 million last year to $52 million this year, but other factors still kept her in the top 10. Other super-famous comeback kid celebrities, according to Forbes? Britney Spears, who ranked sixth; Kim Kardashian, right behind her in seventh place; and Tiger Woods, at number twelve.
