The US Postal Service has announced that Johnny Cash will be featured on a special stamp issued this year as part of its new music icons series.

According to CNN, the collection will feature two other musicians 2013, but they have not yet been revealed.

About 40,000 suggestions are submitted every year to the Postmaster General's Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee for who should be honored with a stamp. The committee then selects 20 topics to be given stamps each year, and musicians made the 2013 cut.

"The committee selects individuals to be on stamps based on accomplishments in their fields, and Cash was a natural fit," Postal Service spokesman Mark Saunders said. "He has a huge following, and extends from country to rock 'n' roll to rhythm and blues."

The black-and-white portrait of Cash featured on the stamp was taken by Frank Bez in 1963, during a photo shoot for "Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash," reported NBC's Today.

A release date for Cash's stamp has yet to be announced, noted Rolling Stone. He died due of complications due to diabetes in 2003 at 71.
