Prince William has quit his job with the Search and Rescue Force of the Royal Air Force and will conclude his tour this summer.

"The decision as to what the Duke will do once his current tour with the Search and Rescue Force comes to an end in late summer is still with the Duke himself," William's press officer told Us Weekly when asked about the royal's career plans.

"William is ready to take on new challenges — as a royal and within the armed forces," a source said. "He will be making an announcement within the next month and leave RAF Valley around the time of the birth."

The birth in questions is, of course, that of the newest addition to the British royal family, the child of William and his wife, Kate Middleton.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be spending more time together at their cottage in Anglesey. Until now, the two have been apart for most of the pregnancy, with Kate staying at their Kensington Palace in London.

William, known as Flt. Lt. Wales in the RAF, will also appear in an upcoming BBC documentary series called "Helicopter Rescue."

"There's no greater feeling than when you've actually done some good and saved someone's life," he said in the documentary.

"I don't think there's any greater calling in life … to be able to see a son or daughter's face when you bring their mother or father back from the edge of death – it's quite powerful."
