Uggie, the Jack Russell terrier who starred in last year's Oscar-winning silent movie 'The Artist', has put his paw prints in cement outside the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

"Every dog has its day and Monday belonged to Uggie," Associated Press wrote, describing how Uggie arrived at the theater in a fire truck wearing a gold bow-tie, and was fed a cake shaped like a fire hydrant.

His trainer, Omar Von Muller, pressed the canine star's paws into the wet cement in a ceremony that also marked the dog's retirement, reports CBS.

"This has been a rush. This has been incredible. All the success in Uggie, everybody says that I'm a great trainer, I think he's just a great dog," Von Muller was quoted as saying by SkyNews.

USA Today notes that some reports claimed the dog was "visibly shaken" during the event, probably through a combination of the large crowd and the oppressive summer heat.   He did have the support of fellow canine stars Lassie and Rin Tin Tin, however.

Ten-year-old Uggie has also performed in "Water for Elephants" but shot to fame as the "cute sidekick" of French actor Jean Dujardin in 'The Artist' last year, says Reuters.  He won the 2011 Palm Dog award at the Cannes film festival in May and the Golden Collar Award in Los Angeles in February, the news agency says.
