NASA's Curiosity rover will make another historic first when it premieres will.i.am's new song, "Reach for the Stars."

In a statement NASA explained that will.i.am's new single will be broadcast "live from the surface of Mars, via Curiosity, at 1 p.m. PST (4 p.m. EDT/2000 GMT) on Tuesday to a news conference at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California," according to Reuters.

Space.com explained that, "though Curiosity has no speakers, it will transmit the song via radio waves back to Earth to be received at 1 p.m."

Space.com also noted that during the event, NASA scientists and mission managers will discuss the Mars mission and explain the technology behind the broadcast to students.

"Reach of the Stars" deals with will.i.am's "passion for science, technology, and space exploration," according to NASA.

According to the Huffington Post, will.i.am's connection with the Mars Curiosity rover is nothing new. Last year the singer and NASA teamed up for the i.am.FIRST program. "During an appearance on Fox News last August, it was joked that will.i.am would debut one of his songs on Mars to see if any intelligent life exists on the planet," Huffington Post reported.

Here is will.i.am discussing his connection to the program with AOL:

In addition to releasing the single, will.i.am is also working with NASA and Discovery Education to push a new science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics initiative leveraging Curiosity and other NASA probes, through his i.am.angel Foundation, NASA said.
