Day 1,195: Syria still not 'chemical weapons-free'

GlobalPost

Today is Day 1,195 of the Syrian conflict.

Israel continues to retaliate for the death of an Israeli teen near the Israel-Syrian border over the weekend. Israeli airstrikes were reported to have killed four and wounded nine in Syria.

And ISIL seized three villages in north Aleppo near the Turkish border on Sunday with the help of US Humvees brought over from their wins in Iraq.

But on Monday, Jabhat al-Nusra-led rebels said they recaptured the towns of Thalthana and Kesar from ISIL, and killed seven ISIL fighters, according to pro-opposition news agency Shahba Press.

Meanwhile, despite yesterday's news that Syria shipped out the last of its "declared" chemical weapons, the country cannot apparently be declared chemical weapon-free, according to Organization for the Protection of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The conflict continues.
