Antonio Bussi, a general from Argentina's Dirty War, died in a hospital in Tucuman, reports EFE. He was 85.
Bussi was sentenced to life in prison in 2008 for the abduction, torture and murder of Sen. Guillermo Vargas Aignasse. He oversaw 30 clandestine jails during the military dictatorship of 1976-1983.
At least 23,000 people were killed during the Dirty War, waged by the military junta against subversion, according to a declassified CIA document.
Bussi was suffering from chronic heart problems and end-stage kidney failure.
