A Chilean company reckons to be the first in South America to export truffles to the world market.
By 2013, Agrobiofruit expects to be growing enough truffles to start sending them worldwide.
Truffles were introduced in Chile in 2002, and are grown in the Maule, Araucania, Los Ríos and Metropolitana regions.
The fungus is often referred to as the "black diamond of gastronomy" and fetches a price of $1,200 per kilo on international markets.
