The Prince of Egypt: "The Plagues"
And on the 8th day...locusts descended on Egypt. And then Israel.
That's right folks. Locusts.
If the recent public relations resurrection of Dennis Rodman wasn't enough to convince you that the man upstairs has a superb sense of humor, then the latest news out of Egypt and Israel might make you think again.
According to the Associated Press, a swarm of locusts crossed into Israel from neighboring Egypt on Monday.
And no, we're not talking about a few pesky bugs that you can swat away with a single flick of the wrist — We're talking about a swarm of biblical proportions.
The locust alert comes ahead of the eight-day Passover festival, which recounts the biblical story of the Israelite exodus from Egypt. According to the Bible, a devastating swarm of locusts was the eighth of 10 plagues that God imposed on Egyptians to persuade Pharoah to free the ancient Hebrews from slavery. Pharaoh did not agree to let them go until after the 10th plague, the death of the first born in every Egyptian family.
This year, Passover begins March 25.
This time, however, even the Israelis are worried about the eerily-timed scourge.
"They may not have ruined Pharaoh, but they could ruin us," one farmer, Tzachi Rimon, told Israel's Channel 10 TV.
Given the latest news trends, it might behoove us all to brush up on our Biblical knowledge.
Don't feel like like dusting off the ole' King James Bible?
