MONTREAL — It is the nightmare of every parent: a giant bird swoops down and snatches their baby taking it to their nest and disappearing forever.

That almost happened in Montreal — or at least, it looked like it did, in a new Youtube video showing a large eagle-like bird swooping down to snatch a toddler.

The video follows the large bird flying around before it descends to earth to pick up a baby playing in the park. The bird lifts the baby but is unable to carry it away.

However, Montreal's parents can breathe easy: three students have admitted to being behind the video hoax.

The “Golden Eagle Snatches Kid” video was made by Normand Archambault, Loïc Mireault and Félix Marquis-Poulin, students at Centre NAD, a design school in Montreal.

The video, which went viral last night after rising to the top of Reddit.com, was a project in their production simulation workshop class, a requirement for the Bachelors degree in 3D Animation and Digital Design.

The video had sparked controversy as to its authenticity.

CBC News pointed out that if this is really a hoax, it is the second big one to come out of Montreal in a week.

Last week, the news channel's satirical radio show "This is That" tricked many into believing that residents were required to train their dogs in both French and English by local laws.
