Royal Caribbean has admitted that the FBI is investigating the "suspicious" death of a woman on board one of its cruise ships off the East Coast over the weekend.
The 64-year-old Virginia woman was found her dead in her cabin aboard Royal Caribbean cruise line's Enchantment of the Seas on Sunday, the last day of a weeklong cruise to the Bahamas and Florida, CNN cited the company as saying.
The woman's husband reportedly found her body.
FBI agents met the vessel when it docked in Baltimore, the Associated Press cited FBI Special Agent Richard Wolf as saying said.
"We look at any kind of suspicious death on the high seas."
However, he declined to say what made the death suspicious and said that no cause of death had yet been established.
He told NBC:
"Some things that were unusual caused us to become involved."
Medical examiners had performed an autopsy on the woman and investigators were interviewing the husband.
NBC cited a statement by Royal Caribbean as saying:
"We extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences. A member of our Care Team is providing support and assistance to her family."
