Gordon Ramsay sued for missing sick girl's fundraiser

Gordon Ramsay was sued for failing to show up to two fundraisers for a sick 11-year-old girl. In a new settlement, Ramsay agreed to donate $100,000 to the girl's charity, the Daily Telegraph reported today

The celebrity chef was scheduled to come to an event in 2010 but canceled after his mother had a heart attack. He then missed his second, rescheduled appearance due to "business difficulties in Britain," the Telegraph said. 

Ramsay, the star of Hell's Kitchen, was sued by the event organizers, New Zealand company Duco Events, for $2 million, the Herald Sun reported. The case was set to go to trial in August until Ramsay unexpectedly agreed to make a donation to the charity.

Matisse Reid, 11, suffers from a rare intestinal disorder. She lives in New Zealand but has been receiving costly, life-saving medical treatment in the United States, Hawke's Bay Today reported.

Both of the sold-out events that Ramsay missed were held in order to raise money for an organ transplant for Reid, the Herald said.

"We just want it known that we are very grateful to Gordon Ramsay and David Higgins from Duco Events because this is a joint donation from both of them," Reid's mother told Hawke's Bay Today

The Telegraph reported that Ramsay has been criticized recently for "spreading himself too thinly."
